All surgery involves risks. Although the risks
are uncommon, you need to be aware of them. Dr. Markus
will be happy to answer any questions you may have
or address any of your concerns.
Some possible complications with gynecomastia surgery
include:
Bleeding . After surgery, you may
notice a small amount of blood on your dressing. This
bleeding should gradually diminish.
Infection. Infections are a complication that may arise
after any surgery, but they are generally localized and readily treatable.
To decrease the chance of infection, Dr. Markus prescribes antibiotics for
all patients after surgery. A severe infection may reduce circulation and
increase swelling that may open the incision and delay healing.
Scars. There is always some scarring
with gynecomastia surgery, and most often the scars
lighten to an acceptable color and texture. Dr. Markus
will monitor your incisions, and if the scars appear
to thicken, he can take steps to control the scarring.
Skin or nipple loss (necrosis). Diminished
circulation may cause skin or nipple loss. In rare cases
the patient may suffer partial or complete loss of one
or both nipples.
